Our Goal is
Your Health and Well Being

Midway Chiropractic is a full service clinic that offers a variety of chiropractic services to meet the needs of our diverse patient population. Following a consultation and examination, Dr. White will establish a treatment plan that will incorporate some, many or all of our services offered to ensure quick and effective care. Our goal is your continued health and well being. Here are some of the methods we use to meet that goal.

Diversified Technique

Diversified is the technique that generally results in the popping sound as the chiropractor makes a manual adjustment to correct misaligned or subluxated spinal segments of the neck or back, and is one of the most widely used forms of manipulation in the chiropractic field.

The focus is on restoration to normal biomechanical function, and correction of the subluxation complex. In addition, Diversified methods have been developed to adjust extremity joints, allowing for beneficial applications in treating sports injuries and other injuries.

Diversified adjusting of the spine uses specific lines of drives for all manual thrusts, allowing for specificity in correcting mechanical distortions of the spine and joints of the extremities. Patient histories, a detailed orthopedic and chiropractic exam and sometimes X-rays are used in analysis and diagnosis. No instruments are used in the adjusting procedure. Motion palpation and full spine, hands-on techniques are used to deliver a deeper thrust, which makes an osseous (popping) sound as the adjustment is given.

Diversified adjustive procedures consist of high velocity, low amplitude movements that usually results in a cavitation of a joint. These techniques attempt to use the normal biomechanics of the spine and extremities in order to create motion in spinal or extremity joints, with the goal of restoring function and structure to the joint.

Myofascial Release Therapy

Derived from the the Latin words "myo" - meaning muscle, and "fascia" - for band; myofascial release therapy releases tension from the fibrous bands of connective tissue (fascia). Myofascial release therapy aims to free constrictions or adhesions in the fascia, thereby alleviating problems with connective tissue scarring or injury.

The doctor uses myofascial release therapy to help individuals with poor posture, repetitive physical injury, traumas or sports injuries and illness and emotional stress. Using this therapy, disruptions of the fascial network are freed and tension on bones, muscles, joints and nerves is relieved. Ultimately, myofascial release restores complete balance back to the body.

Myofascial release therapy utilizes gentle, kneading manipulation that softly stretches, softens, lengthens and realigns fascia. After careful observation of one's posture, the doctor feels for stressed areas of the body. When restricted areas are found, he gently stretches tissues found along the direction of the muscle fibers. This soft tissue manipulation and stretch is held for a couple of minutes until a softening or release is felt. These manipulations and stretches are repeated until the tension is felt no more. A myofascial release session may last up to an hour and can be administered one to three times per week depending on a patient's condition.

In addition myofascial release therapy can be used to to treat back pain; help persons suffering from frozen shoulder, fibromyalgia, headaches, chronic fatigue syndrome, menstrual problems, incontinence, tennis or golfer's elbow, shin splints, sprains, rheumatoid arthritis, muscle spasms, whiplash injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome. Furthermore, myofascial release can be administered to children suffering from birth trauma, head injuries, cerebral palsy, and scoliosis as well.

Graston Technique

The Graston Technique is a form of manual therapy known as soft-tissue instrument-assisted mobilization. It is one of a number of manual therapy approaches that uses instruments with a specialized form of massage/scraping the skin gently.

The therapy is designed to help the practitioner identify areas of restriction and attempt to break up scar tissue.

The Graston Technique is often practiced by chiropractors, osteopathic physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and some licensed massage therapists and athletic trainers.

Graston Technique Goals

The general goals of the therapy are to reduce the patient's pain and increase function through a combination of:

• Breaking down the scar tissue and fascia restrictions that are usually associated with some form of trauma to the soft tissue (e.g., a strained muscle or a pulled ligament, tendon, or fascia).

• Reducing restrictions by stretching connective tissue in an attempt to rearrange the structure of the soft tissue being treated (e.g., muscle, fascia, tendons, ligaments).

• Promoting a better healing environment for the injured soft tissue.

There also appears to be a neurologic benefit to treating patients with the Graston Technique Instruments. This response is similar to that involved with other manual therapies. The literature suggests that when a patient is given manual or instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) therapy, certain nerve fibers are activated. Additionally, the body's position sense organs, such as mechanoreceptors and proprioceptors, seem to respond to these forms of treatment.

Kinesio Taping

The Kinesio Taping Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body's natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.

Latex-free and wearable for days at a time, Kinesio Tex Tape is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions. The Kinesio Taping Method is a therapeutic taping technique not only offering your patient the support they are looking for, but also rehabilitating the affected condition as well. By targeting different receptors within the somatosensory system, Kinesio Tex Tape alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting effect forms convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas.

Based upon years of clinical use, KinesioTex Tape is specifically applied to the patient based upon their needs after evaluation. The findings of the clinical evaluation or assessment dictate the specifics of the Kinesio Tex Tape application and other possible treatments or modalities. With the utilization of single strips or modifications in the shape of an or other specialized shapes as well as the direction and amount of stretch placed on the tape at time of application, Kinesio Tex Tape can be applied in hundreds of ways and has the ability to re-educate the neuromuscular system, reduce pain and inflammation, enhance performance, prevent injury and promote good circulation and healing, and assist in returning the body to homeostasis.

Physiotherapy and Active Rehabiliation

Physiotherapy is the science of medicine that seeks to return patients to the highest possible degree of personal physical independence. As chiropractors, we work with patients with specific neurological, muscular, and skeletal conditions and provide prevention programs to assist people of all ages and abilities in maintaining optimal health and physical fitness.

After a thorough evaluation, the patient is given a treatment plan pertaining to their needs and goals. The evaluation provides crucial information about the patient's weakness, strength, reflexes, sensory perception, as well as their posture, and work and recreational activities.

Highly individualized treatment programs are administered for the patient; these programs are designed to relieve pain, as well as restore function and athletic performance, and promote healing and recovery. After evaluation, the patient is treated through various forms of exercise techniques to improve flexibility and motion, promote strength, and endurance.

We take great pride in watching patients and athletes achieve health and strength they didn't dream would be possible. Physiotherapy and exercise are not just for recovering from disability, but reaching optimum health and athletic performance, as well as protecting yourself from injury in work and sports activities.

Activator Technique

After 35 years of study and 15 years of clinical research, there evolved a technique based on low force and high speed activation of the skeletal structure which incorporated the latest advances in orthopedic, neurological, and chiropractic science.

The Activator Method uses a small, hand-held instrument called the Activator Adjusting Instrument to deliver a gentle impulse force to the spine with the goal of restoring motion to the targeted spinal vertebra or joint. It is an alternative to the traditional manual form of spinal manipulation, known as the high velocity low amplitude thrust (HVLA )and is generally regarded as a softer chiropractic treatment technique.

Next to the Diversified technique, the Activator Adjusting Instrument is the most common therapeutic intervention used at Midway Chiropractic.
